Wafaa Jorgensen is the founder, President, and current CEO of Lotus Buds. Born and raised in Boulak al Dakrour, she received her early education locally in Cairo before earning a Master degree in International Marketing & Management from CBS university in Denmark.
Earlier in 1998, she left Egypt and went on to experience life in developed nations with accessible higher education and abundant job opportunities, which gave her a new perspective. On visits back to Egypt, especially to her childhood neighbourhood, she was struck by the deep contrast in living conditions, particularly for children.
There was a need to develop a physical location where children could come to, where they can feel safe, learn and eat a healthy meal, and enjoy their childhood. The Lotus Buds center was created, opened in May 2023, as a place where children can come to learn, and discuss important matters like basic literacy, e.g. reading, writing, and math, along with the history and culture of Egypt, and the big world beyond their own borders.
Wafaa credits her parents, and especially her father who had an open mind and saw the unique abilities and potentials in each of his three daughters, for inspiring the work she does today and her deep-rooted values and principles, starting with the importance of education.
